EDUA 5434 Helping Kids Write

HELPING KIDS WRITE
Writing is a complex activity. It is more than just a skill or talent, it is a means of investigation and expression for learning in all grades and disciplines. Ideas about why and how to teach writing have evolved dramatically in recent years. This course will expose the teacher to effective approaches and best practices for helping students learn to write.

The teacher will learn how to show students that writing is a process and provide the tools for guiding students through this process. This course will show teachers how to use writing to enrich learning and provide meaningful learning experiences. Furthermore, teachers will develop standards-based lessons that also engage students’ creativity and expression. By the end of the course, teachers will know how to build the fluency of their students’ writing and how to effectively assess writing that can be used to direct instruction.
