ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES FOR LITERACY

Teaching kids how to read is one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences for an elementary teacher. But with so many methodologies available, how do you know if the ones you choose are “working”? How can you have confidence that your students are retaining what you teach them and will be able to apply what they learn across all areas of reading?

In this course, you’ll get the resources and techniques you need to track your students’ progress in the five components of a balanced literacy program. Using a series of guides and templates, you’ll develop quick and easy literacy assessments, and learn how to choose which ones will be most effective for different components of reading instruction. In addition, you’ll learn how to analyze data from individual and group assessments so you can choose the teaching strategies that will help your students become more proficient readers.

Using the techniques from this course, you’ll be able to embed formative and summative assessments seamlessly into your literacy lessons, ensuring your students have the resources they need to continually improve and grow.
