EDUA 5714 Cultivating Youth Activists

CULTIVATING YOUTH ACTIVISTS AND CHANGE AGENTS IN THE CLASSROOM

Young people have been at the forefront of large social movements throughout time. From civil rights movements to anti-bullying campaigns, youth have mobilized in support of positive change in their communities. According to David Jones, CEO of One Young World, a non-profit that provides an open platform for young people to create change, 84% of young people believe it is their duty to change the world for the better.

This course offers strategies for teaching students about their relationships with their local and global communities, how they can have an active role in creating change, and projects they can use to create awareness around a variety of topics, including human rights, environmentalism, and hunger. By the end of the course, you will be able to integrate youth activism principles into your instructional plans in a way that engages students and promotes achievement.
