EDUA 5789 Navigating Twice Exceptionality

NAVIGATING TWICE EXCEPTIONALITY IN THE CLASSROOM

There are plenty of resources about how to help a student who is gifted and talented, an English language learner, or in need of special education. But what about gifted students who also need special education? Or who are also English language learners? To reach their highest potential, these twice-exceptional (2e) students require a different approach than students who fall into only one of these categories.

In this course, you’ll take a deep dive into what twice exceptionality is and how to identify it in your students. You’ll gain practical knowledge on how to work with 2e students in a general population classroom, including how to schedule the day to include the necessary supports, and you’ll develop a toolkit of strategies and resources to help these students succeed. In addition, you’ll learn why schools often have difficulty identifying 2e students and how you can help school leaders create better processes to assess and support these students.

Using the knowledge and strategies from this course, you’ll be able to confidently teach your 2e students, knowing you’re giving them the time and resources they need to thrive.
