EDUA 5110 Arts Education for Early Learning
ARTS EDUCATION FOR EARLY LEARNING AND EMERGENT LITERACY
For many people when they think back to their favorite early learning experiences, they think of arts-related activities. The arts surround us in everything we hear, see, and feel and provide emotional context for experiences that heighten awareness and deepens learning especially for the young.
This course is designed to give the teacher an understanding of the relationship between the arts and early literacy learning. The teacher will learn what the arts are, why they are important, how they contribute to a child’s social-emotional, cognitive, creative, and psychomotor learning, and how they can be a part of everyday literacy instruction. With easy-to-use, tried and true models, the teacher will discover how to intentionally plan arts activities and lessons to deliver classroom content, and embrace arts-based strategies as effective and powerful learning tools.
