EDUA 5534 The Psychology of Sport

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF SPORT
Focus. Confidence. Perseverance. Resilience. While many athletes and coaches concentrate on building physical skills in their chosen sport, many experts argue that mental skills are arguably even more important in helping athletes succeed on and off the field.

This course describes how if the mind is untrained, even the most gifted and highly trained athletes and teams are at risk for poor performance. The mind and body must work in tandem, whether it’s during personal training, team practices, and/or competition. In this course, the coach will learn concrete strategies for building and executing a mental preparation plan for players, forging the vital partnership between body and mind.
