EDUA 5215 Ancient Greece
ANCIENT GREECE
Between approximately 600 and 400 B.C., the world saw the rise, golden age, and fall of one of the greatest societies in history: Ancient Greece. The Ancient Greeks made tremendous, lasting contributions in the fields of politics, philosophy, art, architecture, sport, theatre, science, and math, and their way of life served as an important foundation for all of Western civilization.
This course examines the culture of Ancient Greece in a way that enables the teacher to make historical information meaningful and relevant to students. It approaches Greek history from a multi-disciplinary perspective, incorporating history with language arts, science, math, and the creative arts. Students will learn about the Greek myths and how they reflect how the Greeks saw themselves and their place in the world, and delve into the events and accomplishments of Ancient Greece. By the end of the course, the teacher will have concrete classroom strategies for conveying history (of both Ancient Greece and beyond) through engaging classroom activities that bring the past to life.
