EDUA 5768 Effective Classroom Management

EFFECTIVE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT FOR GRADES 7-12
An engaged, well-managed classroom is vital to student achievement, but for many teachers, classroom management one of the most difficult aspects of teaching to master. The more traditional "punitive" approach to classroom management has been found to be ineffective. Middle and high school students benefit from a classroom environment that is structured, fair, and supports open communication and agency for all learners; students and teachers both thrive best in a mutually respectful classroom.

This course is designed to give the teacher strategies necessary to build a positive, caring, and emotionally safe learning environment for all students. The teacher will learn to restructure power dynamics and connect with students so as to increase engagement and achievement, while reducing typical classroom management problems. This course provides the teacher with tools to prevent discipline problems, build student accountability, and end power struggles.
