GANG RECOGNITION AND BEHAVIOR
Violent gangs are an active presence on our streets and in our schools. Understanding gangs can help teachers address this problem that is threatening the future of our young people and the safety of our communities. In this course the teacher will learn why gangs exist, the history of gangs, how gangs operate, and why gangs are such powerful forces in our communities.

The teacher will also learn how to interpret street gang graffiti, spot indicators of gang involvement, and understand the signs, symbols, and behaviors used by gangs. By the end of this course, the teacher will have strategies for teaching students about gang life and the dangers of getting involved as well as the knowledge of how to structure a learning environment that fulfills the needs of young people, so they will not turn to gangs.
