EDUA 5383 Mesozoic Era: The Age of Dinosaurs

THE MESOZOIC ERA: THE AGE OF DINOSAURS
Dinosaurs ruled the Earth for more than 160 million years before they disappeared during one of the largest mass extinction events 65 million years ago. Dinosaurs continue to captivate our interest and attention – especially children’s – whether through academic study or popular media. This course introduces the teacher to strategies for teaching about the age of dinosaurs, the Mesozoic Era, in a way that conveys important scientific information while engaging students’ imaginations about these amazing and diverse creatures.

After completing this course, the teacher will be equipped to teach students about the fossil record, which has provided insight into the historical era when dinosaurs lived, the different types of dinosaurs, how they looked and behaved, and what led to their extinction. The course also offers several cross-curricular components with classroom exercises and activities that incorporate science, English Language Arts, and the creative arts.
